Hello, builders 👋

Welcome back to your weekly dose of AI Bytes. I started reading about one model launch and ended up reading three. Google shipped Gemini 4 Argon, OpenAI shipped GPT 6.1 Sol, and Anthropic shipped Sonnet 5.5, all inside five days 🏁

The models got cheaper and the doors got narrower: in the same week the labs shipped, Apple moved to fence AI agents out of macOS Full Disk Access and Reddit shut its RSS feeds and public API, while Cloudflare went the other way and open-weighted Clef.

My Favourite Picks
01 pbakaus/impeccable GitHub
A design language that makes an AI coding harness better at design.
02 @mattpocockuk's /retro prompt X
A slash prompt that reads your last 10 agent sessions and finds where the repo slows them down.
03 Google launches Gemini 4 Argon News
Google's new Gemini flagship, aimed at long-horizon software engineering, knowledge work and cyber defence.
04 Apple tightens macOS Full Disk Access over AI agents News
New controls on the macOS permission that hands an app your files, messages, mail and browsing history.
05 Reddit kills RSS feeds and public API access News
Reddit is ending RSS feeds and public API access, citing AI bots scraping its user posts.

☀️ OpenAI ships GPT 6.1 Sol - Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price, in OpenAI's own framing. (OpenAI)

🎼 Anthropic releases Sonnet 5.5 - The Claude 5.5 family picks up a Sonnet, a week after Opus 5.5. (Anthropic)

🔁 OpenAI introduces Dots, always-on agents - Agents that keep running instead of waiting for the next prompt. (OpenAI)

🗝️ Cloudflare open-weights Clef - Open-weight decision models, with a reinforcement-learning fine-tuning platform alongside them. (Cloudflare)

⚖️ Unsealed briefs say the labs knew book piracy was illegal - From the Authors Guild's case against Microsoft and OpenAI. (Authors Guild)

🚨 OpenAI still has no handle on its rogue AI activity - It published a site of “misalignment reports”, and the breadth of the incidents is the story. (TechCrunch)

🔒 Apple tightens macOS Full Disk Access over AI agents - Blanket access to files, messages, mail and browsing history gets riskier as agents get more capable. (TechCrunch)

📡 Reddit kills RSS feeds and public API access - AI bots are the stated reason; the archive of user posts closes another notch. (TechCrunch)

"The models got cheaper this week and the doors got narrower. Both are answers to the same question - how far should an agent be allowed to reach?"
